I would like to have an album page showing all my available galleries, but with the secure ones (ones requiring a password) have a lock symbol or something. At the moment, if I am not mistaken the private galleries just do not appear at all in the album, and you must give the client a specific link for them to view the page.
you can do this by setting up a album with all your secure galleries when the user click on the gallery they will be ask for the password only
Actually, when I create an album and add a gallery, the gallery is not visible at all – whether I make it password protected or not..

I think you have to change your gallery template under settings > general > album template I recommend using your page template unless you are creating your own.
Other option is to copy the “theme/taxonomy-ims_album.php” file inside the Image Store folder, you will have to make a few modifications to work with your theme.
