We would like to sort the photos in a gallery preferably by the names of the photos (DSC0512, DSC0513, DSC0539…) or alternatively by the creation date of the photo. Both is not possible or doesn’t work properly.
I did a quick test and the sort works fine, when you select “Title” is the name under “title/caption” also the date filter works fine. Note that sort only works within the gallery not on the albums.
Sorry, but this might make sense for a few photos. Uploading many photos, all “title/caption” will automatically be set the same. Also the creation date doesn’t work properly and makes not much sense as you might change/update a single photo and then this becomes the first photo.
Would be a great benefit to get the chance to sort by file name. This is more or less the only criteria which really make sense for big galleries. Thank you.
I checked the sort and everything is working as expected, using the global settings and at the individual gallery level. I used 300 pictures and they sort fine on the back end and front end.
If you have a custom loop or you using the shortcode double check your code.
Is it possible to sort photos with file name? If i upload 5000 Photos it is terrible work to give every file a number. And Numbers are shown, but i dont want this. Can u please add this feature?

yes, you can set it globally in settings > gallery > sort images. Or you can do it at the gallery label under the “gallery information” metabox.

it is still not possible to sort the photos by their file name. But that would be the only parameter which really makes sense if you deal with a lot of photos.
Can you please add the “FILE NAME” (e. g. DSC0012.jpg, DSC0013.jpg…) as sorting criteria?

@Salsa-Trips what he is saying is that it does sort it by file name, and I can confirm that this is working for me. What theme are you using? I was having issues with the plugin because of errors in my theme.
